Buddha Park | Tathagata Tsal | Ravangla, Sikkim, India
The Buddha Park of Ravangla, also known as Tathagata Tsal, is situated near Rabong (Ravangla) in South Sikkim district, Sikkim, India. It is located at an altitude of 7000 ft (approx.) on the edge between Maenam and Tendong Hill. With a stunning backdrop of Greater Himalayas, lies on the edge separating the Teesta valley from the Rangit valley and the main attraction of this town is the spectacular sight of the snow-covered peaks.
It was constructed between 2006 and 2013 and features a 130-foot
high statue of the Buddha as its
centerpiece. The site was chosen within
the larger religious complex of the Rabong Gompa (Monastery), itself a
centuries-old place of pilgrimage. Also nearby is Ralang Monastery, a key
monastery in Tibetan Buddhism. The statue was consecrated on 25 March 2013 by
the 14th Dalai Lama, and became a stop on the 'Himalayan Buddhist Circuit'. The
statue of the Buddha marks the occasion of the 2550th birth anniversary of
Gautama Buddha. This statue was built and installed in the place through the
joint efforts of the Sikkim government and its people. The Buddhist circuit of
this park was built here under a State government project, for boosting
pilgrimage and tourism in the region. The Cho Djo lake is located within the
complex, surrounded by forest.With a breathtaking backdrop of Himalayan peaks,
this gigantic, tall Buddha statue contains holy relics from 11 countries. A
spiral interior gallery showcases scenes from Buddha's life in two very
different but colourfully intricate styles.
The nearby Lepcha and Bhutia villages of Yangang, Tinkitam,
Kewzing, Barfung & Bakhim are perfect for short village tours. With
rich natural diversity, the exotic flora and fauna in thick forest, majestic
snow mountains, waterfalls, scenic tea gardens, peaceful villages, ethnic
culture, old monasteries and fresh atmosphere Ravangla is a place worth
visiting. 8 kms on way to Damthang is the Rayong sunrise view point
that provides a beautiful view of the first rays of the sun falling on snow peaks.

Time to visit
Weather in Ravangla is pleasant throughout the year except
for the severe winters. It is best to avoid visiting this place in severe
winters. The months of August and September are ideal for visiting this place
as that time of the year you can also witness the Pang Lhabsol festival.
