Visit to Agradwip Fair -2014 [HD]

Agradwip is situated on the bank of river Ganga ( or Ganges) under the District Burdwan , West Bengal , India. This sacred place is situated about six miles (aprox.) south of Katwa. It is situated on the west side of the Ganga, about 26 miles (aprox.) northwest of Mayapur . Sri Govinda, Sri Madhav, and Sri Vasudeb Ghosh lived here. The samadhi of Sri Govinda Ghosh is located in Agradwip. Govinda Ghosh thakur established the Deity of Sri Gopinath on the east bank of the Ganga near Agradwip.

The village of Agradwip is famously mentioned many places in Vaisnava literature, including the Adi and Madhya lilas of Sri Chaitanya-charitamrta , particularly in relationship to the Ghosh brothers, and the Gopinath temple established by brother Govinda in Agradwip. While Vaishnavtala is said to be the birthplace of Govinda, he made his home at Agradwip, in a house at Kashipur Vishnutala. Sri Srinivas Acharya was also born very close to Agradwip, in the village of Chakhandi.

The three brothers Govinda, Madhab and Vasudev were the eighty-second, eighty-third and eighty-fourth branches of the tree. Lord Chaitanya and Nityananda used to dance in their kirtan performances. The three brothers Govinda, Madhav and Vasudev Ghosh all belonged to a kayastha family. Govinda established the Gopinatha temple in Agradwip, where he resided. Madhav Ghosh was expert in performing kirtan. No one within this universe could compete with Madhav. He was known as the singer of Vrindavan and was very dear to Sri Nityananda Prabhu. It is said that when the three brothers performed sankirtan, immediately Lord Chaitanya and Nityananda would dance in ecstasy. According to the Gaura-ganoddesa-dipika , the three brothers were formerly Kalavati, Rasollasa and Gunatunga, who recited the songs composed by Sri Visakha-gopi. The three brothers were among one of the seven parties that performed kirtan when Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu attended the Ratha-yatra festival at Jagannath Puri. Vakreswar Pandit was the chief dancer in their party.

Shrila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur writes in his Anubhasya, "There is a place named Danihata, near the Agradwip Railway Station and Patuli in the district of Burdwan, where the Deity of Sri Gopinathaji is still situated. This Deity accepted Govinda Ghosh as His father. Even until today, the Deity performs the shraddha ceremony on the anniversary of the death of Govinda Ghosh. The temple of this Deity is managed by the raja-vamsha (Krishnanagar Rajbari) family of Krishnanagar, whose members are descendants of Raja Krishna Chandra Roy. Every year in the month of Baisakh, when there is a Barodol ceremony, this Gopinatha Deity is taken to Krishnanagar. The ceremony is performed with eleven other Deities, and then Shri Gopinathji is brought back to the temple in Agradwip."
