Poverty in  India  is spreading  widely ,  the nation estimated to have a 3rd of the world's  poor . In 2010, the World Bank reported that 32.7% of the total  Indian . Shibpur is a small village under Nakashipara Block , Dist. Nadia , West Bengal , India.One of the specialty of this village is it is surrounded by river Jalangi in three sides. Like other villages in India this one is also based on agricultural activities. The Boat Race ( Nouka Baich) on the day of Durga Dashami during  the Immersion of  the Idol of Goddess Durga in the river  Jalangi  is one of the popular festivals of the village.People of various age groups of surrounding villages gather beside the river or ride on the boats during these hours  on the Jalangi with joy.
